Bluekim (Bogota – Colombia)
Bluekim started her career as a DJ in 1998, but it was only until exploring a wide array of musical styles that she was led into the genre that defines her today: techno.
After 3 years of being on the decks of several parties and bars across her native Colombia, she moved to Sydney-Australia, triggering a radical change in her music and overall artistic concept. By the end of 2001, she participated on Bedroom Bangers, an important annual DJ competition promoted by Sydney’s electronic music newspaper 3DWorld, winning 2nd place among 200 contestants.
She returned to Colombia with a stronger musical style based on melodic, strong synths, incorporating vocals and robot sounds of 80′s EBM and Industrial. A couple of years later she became part of the famous techno crew Techsound (2004-2009), actively promoting and producing a large amount of events and parties featuring local and international artists/DJs.
“For me, being a DJ is not just playing one track after another. It is experimenting with sounds, creating musical stories. It’s like a higher level of communication, being able to take your crowd through different states of mind, playing with their mind and emotions. That is to be a DJ.”
Her sets are unpredictable, full of energy; she is well known by her strong mixing skills and her constant experimentation. They include plenty of industrial techno, EBM, and electro-techno, but overall: a great passion for machines, as well as synthetic, dark, deep sounds.
She has played not only in all of Colombia’s main cities, but internationally as well, including neighboring countries like Venezuela (Maracaibo, Merida, Valencia) and Ecuador (Quito). DJ Bluekim has also performed in USA (New York, Los Angeles) and Australia (Sydney), sharing decks with many well known international DJs and artists.
